WATCH: TOM CRUISE STILL KICKS ASS IN 'JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK' TRAILER
Tom Cruise makes about one movie a year. In 2012, that movie was Jack Reacher and it was fucking good. It’s now 2016 and he’s back for its sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Action has never looked more solid.
Jack’s associate, Susan Turner, is framed for espionage and he will stop at nothing to find out the truth. It’s a classic action movie plot. Nothing too special. Just add a few twists and maybe a betrayal and you’ve Tom Cruise movie. That being said, the writing in Cruise’s movies is usually strong so that even the simplest of plots come off as being excellent. Anything the writing lacks, the action always makes up for.
The action looks incredible, with this film's style similar to the first. A strong emphasis on close quarters, hand to hand combat as well as the heavy use of assault rifles (corresponding to his military background in the film). Cruise is known for doing his own stunts and I’m sure this movie is no exception and it escalates and excites the audience knowing that everything they see, he actually did. Noticeably absent from the trailer is some extended car chase footage. The original film had some great chase sequences captured using an astounding camera setup and I was hoping to see more of that. I’m sure it’s in the movie and they just didn’t want to tease too much.
As for the cast, there isn’t too much to talk about. Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible Series) reprises his role as Jack Reacher and looks good doing it. Cobie Smulders (HIMYM, Avengers) joins the series as a newcomer and plays Susan Turner. Robert Knepper, best known for his role as Theodore 'T-Bag' Bagwell on Prison Break, comes abroad as General Harkness. The cast is strong and full of talent. In the trailer everyone seems to do an amazing job and I’m sure between now and the movie’s release, nothing’s will change with that.
Jack Reacher surprised me when it came out and I’m sure this will too. This will definitely be a cinema worthy experience, especially if you want to feel the full impact of those beautiful action sequences. I know where I’ll be October 22nd.
Synopsis from IMDB:
