REMEMBERING CHRISTINA GRIMMIE; DEAD AT 22, A SINGER-SONGWRITER GONE TOO SOON

People die every day. We know this, but it's an easy fact to forget. In fact, we don't care about people until it's someone we know. 

At 10:45pm Friday, U.S. Orlando time, Christina Grimmie was attacked by a gunman who shot her at least once. She was signing autographs at the time and died early Saturday morning. She was 22 years old. 

No one here at Playback Society knew Christina Grimmie personally, We knew her by her public image, a singer-songwriter with over 3 million subscribers on Youtube. We know her because we love her voice, and maybe that makes us selfish for caring much more now that she is dead. Is it because we are genuinely upset, or because we won't get to greedily play her new covers, on repeat, ever again?

Her Youtube account name was Christina Grimmie. Over half of her videos have a million views each and that number will go up. Her first video came out in 2009 and her last video will have come out June 1st 2016. She came third in season 6 of The Voice in 2014. 

I reached out to the Playback Society team and we all agreed to remember her for what she did best: sing. This is a list of some of our favourite covers by her. Some of us are longtime Christina Grimmie fans, and other members of the team have just discovered her music due to this tragic incident.

Even in the beginning, Grimmie had a beautiful voice. To see her go from amazing to even more amazing puts a smile on my face, but a part of my smile is tainted. It sucks to know that her memory will be overshadowed by her early death before her music.
