LISTEN: TLC'S 'NO SCRUBS' SEES DR. FRESCH; RECEIVES PRESCRIPTION FOR DOPE BEATS

Whether you’ve got this tune on a throwback playlist or on constant rotation, TLC’s No Scrubs is undoubtedly one of the greatest songs of the 90s. It is TIMELESS, resonating with anyone and everyone who has had to go through the woes of guys who hang out the side of his best friend’s ride trying to holler at you. 

But it’s 2016 and though this is a classic, a tasteful remix never hurts. 

In comes Dr. Fresch’s No love. 

It starts off sounding a bit like Justin Bieber’s Somebody to Love, but it soon kicks into the notable 90s anti-fboi anthem that generations past and present have learnt to cherish. 

Under the genre of ‘Future Ghetto’, Fresch spins the track into a great house/trap banger that still evokes those nostalgic feelings.

I chose to sample TLC because “No Scrubs” is a true staple of 90’s R&B culture, and I wanted to see how vocal elements from the classic could convey a different vibe when paired with deeper instrumentation. If you aren’t familiar with Dr Fresch, you definitely need to look up his stuff because in this climate of copycat DJs and producers, it's like a breath of Fresch air.
